Don’t let common myths hold you back from enjoying all yoga has to offer
Myth: You have to be fit and flexible to enjoy the transformational benefits of yoga.
Fact: Not true! Yoga practitioners come in all shapes and sizes. Yoga is a way to become stronger, more flexible – and more peaceful. Yoga truly is for everyone.
Myth: I can’t do yoga every day, so why do it at all?
Fact: Yoga is beneficial no matter how often you practice. One class a week will yield great results. Just five minutes of daily meditation can reduce stress and enhance mental clarity.
Myth: I have to follow a specific lifestyle to practice yoga.
Fact: There are no prerequisites to practice yoga and no judgment about the current life you live. You come to yoga as you are. The insight and mindfulness a regular practice can provide often will lead to a healthier lifestyle, but it is not a prerequisite.
Myth: I have too busy of a mind to meditate or take yoga. I’ll feel impatient or bored.
Fact: Calming mind and body is a learned skill we all need. A busy, chattering mind that craves constant stimulation is a good reason to do yoga. It’s a way to find peace and calm in a chaotic world.
Myth: Yoga is a religion.
Fact: Yoga can be considered a philosophy, art and a science but not a religion. Yoga means union. It is about joining together the aspects of ourselves, which were never meant to be divided in the first place. Yoga is contained in many religions but religion is not contained in yoga.
